Introduction to IFSPs, IEPs, and 504s

Join us for a Special Education Training led by the Staff of PEAK Parent center. This training provides participants with a foundational knowledge of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs), and 504 plans. You will learn about their processes, the differences between IEPs and 504 Plans, and the roles of parents, students, and school staff in the IEP process. Spanish interpretation and sign language interpretation are available when indicated in registration.

Objectives:

  • Understand the basics of IDEA, focusing on IFSPs, IEPs, and their processes.
  • Explore differences between IEPs and 504 Plans.
  • Understand the alphabet soup of IDEA and ADA: IFSPs, IEPs, FAPE, LRE, PWN, PLAAFP, SMART, ESY, ADR, etc.
  • Outline the IEP development process, including evaluation and eligibility.
  • Identify required participants in IEP meetings.
  • Clarify parents’ and students’ roles, rights, and resolution options in the IEP process.
