A native of Colorado, Mariah Mayhugh has lived with epilepsy since she was 7 years old and is a strong believer in disability inclusion, especially in the media. She wrote her first book, “Mimi: A Story About Absence Seizures” at the age of nineteen, after realizing that no children’s books discussed absence epilepsy or had little girls as the main protagonists. She currently serves as Miss El Paso County 2022/2023 and will compete in Miss Colorado 2023 with a disability inclusion platform. She is honored to be a self-advocate on PEAK Parent’s Board of Directors, especially to be a voice for teens and young adults with disabilities. When she isn’t working or advocating, Mariah spends her time expanding on her skills in the arts as a lyrical ribbon dancer and singer/songwriter. She lives by the philosophy that everyone should aim to leave the world better than they found it and she hopes that by sharing her epilepsy story other people like her will feel less alone.
